Why build a type-match calculator?
Maybe you’re an INFJ wondering how you and that outspoken ENTP colleague will get on. Maybe you run a project team and want pairs that cover one another’s blind spots. Or you just enjoy comparing personality notes with friends. Lists of “best matches” are easy to find, but they rarely explain the numbers behind them. This page gives every one of the 256 possible pairs a simple 0-100 score, so you can see at a glance where you stand and why.
How the score comes together
We start with the five-star chart published by IDRlabs. One star turns into 40 points, two stars into 55, three stars 70, four stars 85, and five stars 95. Then we nudge the figure in two small ways:
- +5 points when one person’s dominant function lines up with the other’s auxiliary (for example Ni with Fe).
- +3 points when the pair balances J and P.
Scores never rise above 100. We group the result into five plain-language labels, from “High Match 💖” down to “Tough ⚡”. It’s a guide, not a stamp of approval — real friendships also rest on values, timing and a bit of luck.
How to use it
- Pick your type on the left.
- Pick the other person’s type on the right.
- Press Calculate. A score and two or three short notes appear straight away.
Hit Share if you want a small PNG poster. It has a white background and no personal data, ready for Instagram stories, group chats or a quick email.
Where people use it
- Dating — a light ice-breaker before the first meet-up.
- Work — matching mentors, code peers or study partners.
- Classroom — psychology teachers who want a quick demo tool.
- Self-review — seeing how your own stack plays out with others.
A quick reality check
MBTI® is a popular model, but it isn’t clinical and it doesn’t predict success on its own. The table here blends community feedback with basic function theory. If you need firm advice on relationships or hiring, look at broader research such as the Big Five or studies by the Gottman Institute.
What’s next
We’re working on a tiny API for blog embeds, extra language packs (German and Portuguese are first in line) and dark mode. Ideas, corrections or feature wishes are welcome — drop us a note. If the calculator saves you time, share the link with a friend; word-of-mouth keeps the site free and the ads light.
